The Horse in pictures from the brilliantly coloured paintings by Virginia McCoy
‘My collection of horse paintings is inspired by the work of German expressionist Franz Marc whose beautiful paintings of horses showed me where I wanted to go with what began as a forum for experiment with colour and media.
Here I borrowed from one of his foal paintings and, by exaggerating the movement and colour, gave these lovelies a future on the carousel.’ V. McCoy
Carousel Babies II - painting in gouache, 2005
Raised in Northern Ontario of mixed Ojibwa, French and English heritage, Virginia’s inspiration is the northern landscape and the characters she finds there, wild life, plant life or human beings and their artifacts.
Virginia McCoy has been painting for more than 30 years. She works with gouache and transparent watercolours. Her home and studio is now in Inverness, Nova Scotia on the western shore of Cape Breton Island.
